Finding The Right Size Of Removal Van For Your Move
Posted on 20/08/2014
If you are just setting out on the preparations for your removal, and are not completely sure as to the size of the transportation that you need, then it is certainly wise to be thinking about it at this point. You will find that there are many different shapes and sizes of vehicle that can accommodate different load sizes, and knowing exactly which one is right for your needs can be really difficult. You don’t want to over size, as the larger the vehicle, the higher the rental cost, but of course if you go too small with the sizing, then you will find that you can’t fit everything in, and that will potentially be an even more expensive problem, as you may have to do repeated trips! Should you be in this conundrum, then it is useful to have a couple of things to think through to ensure that you are getting the best from your removal.
First off, no one can gather everything that they own together to organize it, as most removals are way too big to be worth going to that effort. However, if you only have a few things that you need to move as you live in a furnished rental apartment, then you may be able to do this. For such a small load, you should usually be able to tell if you will be able to fit it in to a transit van, but if not then you can pile everything together and get a rough measurement of the width, length and height of the supposed cuboid that the pile exists within. These numbers multiplied will give you a volume measurement, and you can compare this with the volume readings for different van models, so that you know what will fit.
For other moves that have a really large amount of items, you won’t be able to get it all together to measure it far enough in advance of the removal. You can sometimes be unsure as to whether you need a larger man with van service, or a normal removals company with a truck. You will find that a larger man and van will usually be the same price as a normal man and van, it will just be the case that the moving van is a long wheel base model of van, rather than a shorter one. You can often get a lot more into a longer van than a shorter one, so it can be worth ringing up a man with a van service, to talk to them about what they think will fit in the van, simply by talking through the number of bedrooms and how much you have to move. You may even find that the hourly rate is enough to be able to do repeat trips without cutting into the kind of money that you would be spending on having a removals team do the job, but you would of course be missing out on the help that comes with the men from the removals team.
If you don’t mind a bit of graft then a larger man and van could be a great option for you. However, it is worth getting a quotation done by a removals company in order to get a price comparison. If the quote is free and leaves you under no obligation, then what do you have to lose? A decent assessment could give you many more answers than you would have had otherwise.
