Health and Safety Policy for Removals France

Removals France is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This policy sets out our principles and responsibilities for managing health and safety across all moving and relocation services we provide.

Our Commitment to Health and Safety

We recognise that removals and relocation services involve physical work, transport operations and handling of personal and commercial belongings. We are committed to preventing injury, ill health, property damage and avoidable disruption by planning and delivering our services with safety as a core priority.

Health and safety considerations are integrated into our day-to-day operations, including packing, lifting, loading, driving, unloading and storage. We aim to foster a positive safety culture in which everyone takes responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.

Legal Compliance and Continuous Improvement

Removals France will comply with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations relevant to our operations. We will monitor legal requirements and recognised industry best practice and update our procedures when needed.

We are committed to the continual improvement of our health and safety performance. This includes setting realistic objectives, monitoring performance, investigating incidents and near misses, and learning from experience to reduce risks.

Roles and Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who ensure that adequate resources, information and supervision are provided. Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy, communicating safe systems of work, and ensuring that staff follow agreed procedures.

Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Staff must cooperate with management in implementing this policy, attend training, follow instructions, use equipment correctly and report any hazards, incidents or concerns without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

We will carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for our key activities, including but not limited to manual handling, vehicle operations, working in customers premises, use of lifting equipment and handling of fragile or heavy items.

Based on these assessments, we will develop and maintain safe systems of work that are practical and clearly communicated to staff. These may include guidelines on safe lifting techniques, team lifts, use of trolleys and dollies, safe stacking, loading patterns, securing of loads, and safe route planning.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

Manual handling is a core part of removal work and a major source of potential injury. We will minimise manual handling risks by using appropriate handling equipment wherever reasonably practicable and by ensuring that loads are assessed for weight, size and stability before they are moved.

All staff involved in lifting and carrying will receive training in safe manual handling techniques, including posture, use of leg strength, team cooperation and recognition of personal limits. Staff are instructed not to attempt to move items that they believe are too heavy or awkward without assistance or equipment.

Any lifting or handling equipment we provide, such as trolleys, ramps and securing devices, will be properly maintained and checked for defects. Defective equipment must be taken out of service and reported immediately.

Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards

Our vehicles are essential to our removals service and must be operated safely at all times. Vehicles will be regularly inspected, serviced and maintained to ensure they are roadworthy and suitable for their tasks.

Drivers will hold the correct licences and are required to follow all road traffic laws and company driving procedures. This includes adherence to speed limits, rest breaks, load securing procedures and route planning appropriate to the size and type of vehicle.

Loads must be evenly distributed, secured using suitable restraints, and checked before departure and at appropriate intervals during the journey. Drivers are expected to report any vehicle defects, incidents or near misses as soon as practicable.

Customer Premises and Public Safety

Our teams often work in customers homes, offices and shared areas. We will take reasonable steps to protect customers, their property and members of the public from risks arising from our work.

This includes maintaining clear access routes, using warning signs or verbal warnings where necessary, avoiding trip hazards such as trailing straps or packaging, and carefully planning how items will be moved through confined spaces, stairways and shared entrances.

Our staff are trained to treat customers premises with respect, manage hazards promptly and communicate clearly with customers about any safety issues that may affect them during the move.

Training, Information and Supervision

Removals France will provide appropriate health and safety training for all employees, taking account of their roles, experience and responsibilities. This includes induction training for new staff and refresher or update training as needed.

Training may cover topics such as manual handling, correct use of equipment, vehicle safety, hazard awareness, emergency procedures and safe behaviour at customers premises. Supervisors will monitor working practices and provide guidance and feedback to ensure that training is put into practice.

Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly. We will investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Staff are encouraged to report hazards or unsafe conditions so that they can be addressed before harm occurs.

We will maintain clear emergency procedures for dealing with incidents such as injuries, fires, vehicle breakdowns or road traffic accidents. Staff will receive guidance on how to respond, who to notify and how to protect themselves, customers and the public in an emergency.

Wellbeing and Fitness for Work

We recognise the importance of physical and mental wellbeing in delivering safe removals services. Staff are expected to present themselves fit for work and free from the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any medication or condition that might affect safe working must be discussed confidentially with management so that suitable adjustments can be considered.

Review of this Policy

This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and updated when necessary, for example following changes in legislation, operational practices or after significant incidents. Updated versions will be communicated to all employees and made available to customers on request.

By following this policy, Removals France aims to deliver high quality removal services while protecting the health, safety and welfare of everyone involved in or affected by our work.
